Almost every professional football match that is shown live is sold to broadcasters country by country. That is why the same game can be on a pay-TV channel in one country, on a free-to-air network in another, and not shown live at all somewhere else. Finding a legal stream is mostly a matter of knowing who holds the rights where you are.
Start with the competition, not the match
Broadcast deals are usually agreed per competition and per territory for several seasons at a time. Once you know which service carries a league or cup in your country, most of its matches will be on the same platform. Our soccer streams directory lists authorised broadcasters and streaming services, and each match page shows broadcast listings only once they have been verified.
Check the official sources
- The competition's own website usually publishes a "where to watch" page by country.
- Broadcasters publish weekly schedules, normally a few days before matchday.
- Club websites and apps often confirm which channel is showing their next game.
If a listing on any website — including this one — conflicts with the broadcaster's own schedule, trust the broadcaster.
Subscriptions, apps and add-ons
Many services offer football through an app on phones, smart TVs and streaming sticks. Some include matches in a basic subscription, others sell a sports add-on or a day pass. Before paying, check:
- That the service is available in your country — most enforce geographic restrictions.
- Which competitions are included in the tier you are buying.
- Contract length, cancellation terms and how many devices can stream at once.
Free-to-air options
Some matches are shown free-to-air, particularly international tournaments and highlights programmes. In the UK, for example, watching live TV or BBC programmes on BBC iPlayer requires a valid TV Licence even though there is no subscription fee.
Why we don't link to unofficial streams
Unauthorised streams are not just a rights issue. They are commonly surrounded by intrusive advertising, fake "play" buttons and malicious downloads. We explain the risks in why unofficial football streams are risky.
